It can be really hard to stay motivated at the moment, with all races cancelled for the foreseeable future. If you’re missing your chance to earn some cool medals, or just need a goal to work towards, there are plenty of virtual running challenges to keep you going.
No matter how long you’ve been running or how fast you run, there are challenges to keep you enthused this month. Here we round up some of the best virtual running challenges for June, and it’s not too late to get started.
White Star Virtual Races
Earn one of White Star Running’s famous medals from races past in this virtual race option. Simply pick the medal you want to earn, then run or walk as far as you can in a month to earn it. The minimum distance is just 1 mile, and 20% of the funds raised go to the Bournemouth Foodbank.
Phoenix Running P24 – The Longest Day
A simple concept, but hard to achieve, this is a virtual race for those who want a challenge. To mark the longest day of the year (the summer solstice), runners are challenged to run just 1 mile on the hour, every hour, for 24 hours. It starts at 8am on Saturday 21st June and finishes with the final mile at 7am on Sunday 22nd June.
Virtual Racing UK June Medusa 20
Earn this cool Medusa medal this June by running (or walking or cycling or a combination of all three) 20K in a month. You can do the distance in one go, or over multiple sessions. This medal is the second in Virtual Racing UK’s Myths & Legends Series.
Race At Your Pace June
Race At Your Pace has monthly virtual running challenges to cover a distance of your choice over the course of a month. The races are perfect for all abilities, starting from 5 miles up to 200 miles. The races are great value, at £10 for a medal only entry and £14 to also get a compression top, which changes month on month.
These virtual fitness challenges motivate you by mapping your distance covered to a physical trail or landmark. For example, you could take on the Inca Trail Virtual Marathon and travel 26.2 miles along the Inca Trail in Peru. Every time you complete a distance based activity (running, walking, cycling, swimming), you advance along the course. Other options include Hadrian’s Wall, the Grand Canyon and Route 66.
Great Run Solo
Great Run is offering a choice of virtual running challenges. It’s great for all ages, with junior events for 1 mile or 1K a day for 7 days, right up to weekly or monthly challenge for adults. The events cost £10 to enter and all profits go to NHS Charities Together. When you complete a challenge, you get a medal and a different ribbon for each challenge.
If you’ve seen a great virtual running challenge or are hosting one, let us know!
